Jeffrey Buchanan, Commander, Joint Task Force Civil Support (JTF-CS) Maj. Gen. William “Bill" Hall and Director of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) Patrick Sheehan participate in a Commander’s Update Brief (CUB) during exercise Ardent Sentry 2019. The ARNORTH-led exercise was conducted in support of FEMA’s exercise Shaken Fury, which simulated a catastrophic earthquake along the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) near Memphis, Tennessee that affected eight states. Exercise Shaken Fury tested the national incident management system. During the exercise, which ran from May 29 - June 5, nearly 100 JTF-CS personnel supported more than 50 command members who were forward-deployed to Nashville, Tenn.; Berry Field, Tenn.; Jackson, Miss.; Jefferson City, Mo. and Ft. Sam Houston, Tx. in response to a notional 7.7 magnitude earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ). Ardent Sentry is a U.S. Northern Command exercise geared toward building and strengthening interagency relationships by providing defense support of civil authorities during the NMSZ earthquake scenario.
