DETROIT - A member from the U.S. Coast Guard briefs Joint Task Force Civil Support members and other participants of the 2018 DoD Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA)/Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Dense Urban Terrain Training Tactical Exercise Without Troops exercise Aug. 21-23 in Detroit, Mich. The Detroit River serves as an international border, as well as a means of transportation and commerce and would be significantly affected during a disaster. The task force members were among the 150 participants from more than 50 organizations of the interagency, to include local, state, federal and international partners. They gathered to increase their readiness for the CBRN mission with a focus on operating in a dense urban environment. Detroit is an inland seaport and handles traffic from all over the world by way of various connecting waterways and so afforded the training attendees with the opportunity to consider the challenges of responding to a DSCA event by water. The training was held by the 46th Military Police Command, Michigan Army National Guard, Command and Control CBRN Response Element – Bravo and also included training within the city landscape.
