Command Master Chief Kevin Guy is a native of Olive Branch, Mississippi and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1991. After completion of Recruit Training and Operations Specialist “A” School, he reported to the commissioning crew of USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG-71), where he served as a Surface Warfare Supervisor/Tracker and Track Identification Supervisor. In May 1995, he reported to the commissioning crew of USS COLE (DDG-67), serving as a Work Center Supervisor, Air Intercept Controller and Tactical Datalink
In January 1999, he reported to the CINCLANTFLT staff, serving as a Leading Petty Officer (LPO) and watch center’s Global Command and Control System Database Manager. In May 2002, he reported to USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) where he served as the OI Division Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO), Air Intercept Control Supervisor, Air Defense Weapons Coordinator, Combat Direction Center Watch Officer and Tactical Actions Officer. He was selected to Chief Petty Officer in 2005 and additionally graduated from the Navy Fighter Weapons School “TOPGUN”, earning his designation as a Strike/Fighter Tactics Instructor.
In January 2007, he reported to instructor duty at Center for Combat Systems Detachment Norfolk and was selected to Senior Chief in 2009. In February 2010, he reported onboard USS WASP (LHD-1) for a first stint onboard, serving as the Operations Department LCPO, TAO, Combat Information Center Watch Officer, Tactical Datalink Interface Control Officer and ADWC. After selection to Master Chief in 2012, he reported to USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) as the Operations Department LCPO. He was selected for the Command Master Chief program in February 2014.
Master Chief Guy has served as CMC of the “Sun Kings” of CARAEWRON One One Six, where his squadron won the Battle “E”, Retention Excellence awards, the CNO Safety “S” award, and 2016 RADM Frank Akers Award for recognition as COMNAVAIRFOR’s top E-2 Hawkeye squadron. He additionally served as CMC of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, where his command earned the Naval District Washington Region’s Installation Excellence Award two years in row, CNIC’s Retention Excellence awards, and winning four major Navy-wide community service awards. He most recently served as CMC of USS WASP (LHD 1), where he helped lead his team to two consecutive Battle “E” awards, the Golden Anchor Retention Excellence award, and only LHD to earn the SECNAV Safety Excellence Award for 2020. Master Chief Guy assumed duties as CSEL for Joint Task Force Civil Support in May 2021.
He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 174, Gold), CMC/COB Course, the National Defense University’s Keystone Leadership Course, and Naval Postgraduate School’s Navy Senior Leader Seminar (NSLS). He holds an Associate’s of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts and is a qualified Enlisted Surface Warfare, Aviation Warfare, Master Training and Afloat Training Specialist.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five), and various unit and campaign awards.
